5 Ways to Meet People While Traveling Solo

5 Ways to Meet People While Traveling Solo

I know many people, women in particular, who are just not down with the solo travel life.  I get it, it's not for everybody.  But if you have reached a point where you are tired of waiting for other people or if you just ready to take the leap and are worried about being lonely, don't worry because I got you covered.   Meeting new people in your real life in itself can be challenging, so I can relate that it can be intimidating to meet people while traveling solo. Here are 5 ways to help you break that feeling and make you wonder why you didn't start your solo travel journey sooner.

Stay in a hostel

This will probably be the easiest way to meet people while on your solo adventures because you will be connected to people who are doing the absolute same thing as you...traveling solo. They too are looking for people to hang out with, explore, take amazing photos with, eat with, party with, and just simply have a good time.  Like minded people willing to go off the beaten path and participate in those adventures you have been dying to cross off your bucket list.   More than likely they want to do the same things!

Take a cooking class

If you are bold enough try websites such as Eatwith which invite people over for a home cooked meal and probably good conversion, drinks, and a good time.  If you aren't that bold and wish to take a more traditional approach, venture to sites like Groupon, Living Social, and Viator which I'm sure will have a cooking class that meets your wants and needs.

Sign up for a free workout class

Lots of major cities offer free workout classes, usually on a one-time basis, but if you are only in a city for a few days, take an hour or two to get some exercise in and in turn hopefully meet some cool people.  Be open minded and spark up a conversation.  You might be surprised what you and person next to you have in common.  We all know how small the world is.

Take a tour

Whether it's a free walking tour or a museum tour, the possibilities to meeting new people come in many forms.  Do a simple google search and find tours in whatever city you are visiting or planning to visit.   You might even come across a tour that you didn't know existed.  As with all ways of meeting new people, be open and try to engage in simple conversation.  See someone that showed up by themselves too?  They might be on the same page as you and are looking to meet new people as well.

Sit at the bar

Get dressed, put on a smile, and look inviting.  But not too inviting, we don't want to attract any creepers.  If you are staying at a hotel, head down to the bar/restaurant area, order a drink, and spark up a conversation with the person sitting next to you.  Yes, it can be as simple as that.  Besides, people tend to be more open when they've had a few drinks in their system. You never know who you are sitting next to.

All in all, when meeting new people, use your intitution and don't put yourself in any compromising positions or in situations that make you feel uncomfortable.  Be open minded, approachable, and you just may make life long friends.

Have a solo adventure coming up?  Where are you headed and how do you plan to meet people?
